Whistler Updates

 

Whistler Laser Radar Detector Updates

Updates: CR90, Z-31R, and LR300 Laser Radar Detector

 

Getting Started

a.) To get started, you will need to have your radar detector with the serial number (located on the bottom of the unit) and the supplied USB cable. You will not need the power cord for the radar detector.

 

Note:

    1.) Create a folder on your computer to save these files for future access.

    2.) Program is not MAC compatible

 

b.) Before you can download the necessary files, you must be signed in to a whistlergroup.com user account and have your detector registered.

c.) Click on the “Login” link at the top of the page and enter your login information. If you do not already have an account, click on “Sign up for a free account” and set up your user account.

d.) Once you have set up your user account and are logged in, click on “Register Products” and register your detector. Make a note of the last character of the serial number.

e.) Click on the section below that corresponds with your serial number, ending in “R” or “S”. If your serial number does not end with a letter, choose the section for serial numbers ending in “R”.

 

Follow the steps below to update the Laser-Radar Detector.

 

Step 1: Click on the “Download Data” button and save the file to your computer in the folder you created. Do not try to open this file. It is not an executable program.

Step 2: Click on the “Download Software” button and save the file to your computer in the folder you created. You will only need to download this file one time. You will use this program each month to process the updates.

Step 3: Plug the USB cable into the Laser-Radar Detector and the other end in to an open USB port on your computer.

Step 4: Double click the RD_Download_Ver11.exe file to start the application.

Step 5: Click on the “DB Update” button and navigate to the folder you created.

Step 6: Click on the most recent data file, then click “Open”.

Step 7: When update is complete, close the update program, unplug the USB cable and the Laser-Radar Detector is ready with the new updates.

Step 7: The file browser window will close and the file name will appear in the field in the middle of the screen. Click on the “DB Update” button.

Step 8: When update is complete, close the update program, unplug the USB cable and the Laser-Radar Detector is ready with the new updates.

Whistler Pro-3600 RLC-360 Updates

Updates: Pro-3600 RLC-360 Red Light Camera Database

 

Getting Started

a.) To get started, you will need to have a blank USB storage device and the supplied USB cable will need to be plugged in to the USB port on the interface box of your Pro-3600.

b.) Before you can download the necessary files, you must be signed in to a whistlergroup.com user account and have your detector registered.

c.) Click on the “Login” link at the top of the page and enter your login information. If you do not already have an account, click on “Sign up for a free account” and set up your user account.

d.) Once you have set up your user account and are logged in, click on “Register Products” and register your detector. You will need the serial number from the back of any of the modules of your Pro-3600.

 

Note:

    1.) These updates are only needed if you have the optional GPS module (RLC-360). If you do not have this module, these updates will offer you no benefits.

    2.) The updates must be done one at a time. The update file that you are processing MUST be in the root directory of the USB device (not inside a folder), and it MUST be the only file in the root directory.

    3.) DO NOT RENAME THE FILES.

 

Step 1: Connect your USB storage device to a USB port on your computer. Delete all files from the USB storage device.

Step 2: Click on the “Download Firmware” button and save the file to your USB storage device. Do not try to open this file. It is not an executable program.

Step 3: Turn the Pro-3600 power off.

Step 4: With the USB cable connected to the USB port on the interface box of the Pro-3600, connect your USB storage device in to the USB plug.

Step 5: Turn the Pro-3600 power on.

Step 6: The detector will boot in to the update mode. Follow the prompts on the display of the Pro-3600 to complete the update.

Step 7: When the update is complete. Power off the Pro-3600 and remove the USB storage device.

 

You will only need to update the firmware one time. You will not need to follow this procedure each time you update the GPS database

Whistler RLC-100 and RLC-250 Updates

Updates: RLC-100 and RLC-250 Red Light Camera Detectors

 

Getting Started

Follow the steps below to update the Red Light Camera locator.

 

Step 1. Do not plug the RLC in to the computer’s USB port yet. Unplug it if you have it plugged in already.

Step 2. Download the drivers for your correct operating system below.

Step 3. Click on the yellow DOWNLOAD button in the window that pops up.

Step 4. Select RUN and then select RUN again if you get an “UNKNOWN PUBLISHER” security warning.

Step 5. A WinZip window should open. Click on UNZIP. You will get a message saying a number of files were unzipped successfully. Click OK, and then click on CLOSE in the WinZip window.

Step 6. Click on the START button.

Step 7. Right click on COMPUTER (MY COMPUTER for Win98 and XP users).

Step 8. Click on MANAGE (Windows 8 users click on PROPERTIES).

Step 9. Click on DEVICE MANAGER

     a. If there is an error at this point, the user may have to log on to an administrator account to continue.

Step 10. With the device manager open, plug the RLC in to the USB port.

     a. A new section should appear called OTHER DEVICES.

     b. In this new section there should be a device called UNKNOWN DEVICE.

     c. If this device does not show up, unplug the USB cord from the computer. Ensure that the cable is securely plugged in to the RLC, then plug the USB cord back in to the computer.

Step 11. Right click on UNKNOWN DEVICE.

Step 12. Click on UPDATE DRIVER.

Step 13. Select the option to manually select a location.

Step 14. Click on BROWSE and point Windows to C:\Whistler RLC files\USB driver.

     a. Make sure that the INCLUDE SUBDIRECTORIES option is NOT checked.

     b. For a 64 bit version of Windows, point it to C:\Whistler RLC files\USB driver\64 Bit.

     c. If you do not know if you have 64 bit, select the first location (..\USB driver). If it is 64 bit, you will get an error telling you that the drivers are not compatible with an x64 system. If this happens, go back and point it to the second location (...\USB driver\64 bit).

Step 15. Click OPEN, then NEXT and you should get a message telling you that Windows successfully installed drivers for the device.

 

 

Whistler Scanner Radio Updates

Updates: WS1040, WS1065, and WS1080 Radio Scanners

 

Getting Started

 

If you have the EZ scan software installed on your computer and have deleted the files/reformatted the SD card:

 

Step:1 Remove batteries from the scanner

Step:2 Insert SD card

Step:3 Open EZScan software on your PC

Step:4 Connect the scanner to your PC

Step:5 Under the “Scanner/SD card” pull down menu; select “Prepare scanner memory/SD card for use”.

Step:6 In the “After Format Options” section, make sure both options are checked.

Step:7 Select the removable drive letter for the scanner (i.e. Drive E) and click “Format”. Follow the onscreen instructions

Step:8 Click “Close” or “OK” when format is complete

 

Unplug the scanner and reinstall the batteries to begin scanning.

 

If you have deleted the files/reformatted the SD card BEFORE you installed the EZ Scan software on your computer:

 

Step:1 Download the Whistler EZScan file below to your PC

 

 

Step:2 Remove batteries from the scanner

Step:3 Insert SD card

Step:4 Open EZScan software on your PC

Step:5 Connect the scanner to your PC

Step:6 Under the “Scanner/SD card” pull down menu; select “Prepare scanner memory/SD card for use”.
